GROUND RULES TO A SUCCESSFUL INTERVIEW
- Be presentable
Remember you are on sale here. Would the employer purchase you?
That not only depends on your skill but also your present-ability.
Select the appropriate outfit to reflect the industry and position.
2. Be punctual
Arrive before the actual time of interview. Allow time to refresh
your self. It is a bad habit to be late and the employer may have
the opinion that this may reflect on your subsequent timing habits.
3. Research the organisation thoroughly.
Learn about the organisation, the culture, employees, services,
products, customers and competition.
4. Be well prepared.
Make extra copy of your CV. Bring a pen and folder along. Be
well prepared.
5. Be enthusiastic.
Speak fluently regardless of the pressure and shake hand firmly.
Be confident in what you say. Avoid uneccessary hand movements.
6. Listen.
Make efforts not to interrupt the interview. Avoid attempts to
want to be heard at all costs. Be a good listener.
7. Be specific and not ramble
When questions are asked, go straight to the answer. Be specific.
8. Give specific illustration.
This may be a prognostic or indicator of future performance.
So it is important to stick to realistic examples and specific
illustrations.
9. Ask questions
Show that you want to know more about the organisation as much
as they want to know more about you. Ask questions about the position,
or organisation.
10. Make a follow up.
This may be via email, conventional letter, fax or telephone
call. Make a follow up. This may even be a reminder to the employer
about your kind of traits and the skills you may bring into the
job.
